Five Reasons You Should Consider Veneers

Dental Veneers

Dental veneers are something that more and more people are considering. These simple covers for your teeth can correct a number of problems and look great. They’re designed to replicate your natural teeth, but they look and feel much better.

Still wondering if you should get veneers? Here are a few reasons you should be thinking about it:

They Last 10-15 Years

If you want durability, look no further than a veneer. Thanks to the sturdy materials used, they should last at least a decade, or even longer if you look after them. It’s very easy to take care of your veneers . . . they’re just like your teeth. Make sure to brush and floss regularly. This is something you should be doing anyway, so it makes sense to continue once you have veneers.

They Strengthen Your Worn Teeth

Teeth can become worn down or damaged over time and sometimes this happens even at a young age. Veneers can cover the damage and protect your teeth from further wear and tear. The strong covers are a good coat of armour for your teeth.

They Reduce the Need for Braces

Do you have a gap between your teeth that you want to fix? In some cases, you can turn to braces to close the gap, but another option, depending on the severity, is using veneers. These can be created to close the gap and give you a great-looking smile, without the need for years of tightening wires.

They Eliminate the Need for Whitening Products

When whitening procedures don’t work, you may feel like you’ll never smile again. However, it’s possible to correct the colour of your teeth with the use of porcelain veneers. They’ll look perfect and cover up the discolouration on your existing teeth. As long as the colour changes aren’t due to cavities, veneers are an excellent option for those un-whitened teeth.

They Repair Cracks and Chips

Many people end up with cracked teeth for one reason or another. Often, these cracks aren’t actually an issue and don’t cause pain, but they do look unsightly. You may not want to walk around with the corner of a front tooth chipped off and you wouldn’t be alone. Fortunately, veneers can cover up this damage and help your smile look natural again.

Dental veneers can be your best friend. They’re certainly a good option if you find yourself in need of a better-looking smile and have only minor damage or non-decay issues in your teeth. The procedure doesn’t even take that long and is pain-free, so it’s worth looking at.

Vaping is a relatively new phenomenon that has increased in popularity significantly in the past decade. Many use it as a way to wean off cigarettes but some people are becoming addicted to e-cigarettes at a young age. Smoking is widely recognised as a very unhealthy habit, causing gum disease, tooth loss, staining and even oral cancer, whereas vaping is considered a healthier alternative. However, how much damage is being done by vaping? Read on to learn more. Can vaping cause gum disease? While the effects of vaping are not yet known for certain, here is what we do know about smoking nicotine. - Nicotine causes vasoconstriction which means that your gum has a poor blood supply. Ultimately, this can make your gums more prone to infection and lead to gum recession. - Smoking will also dry out your mouth which means your mouth loses its first line of defence against bacteria. Gum disease is caused by bacteria getting under your gum line which is more likely if you have lower levels of saliva. - Generally, your immune system is lowered if you are a smoker which means infectious diseases such as gum disease are more likely to occur. What ingredients should you avoid? When choosing an e-cigarette fluid, there are some ingredients that have known negative side effects. These include: - Nicotine - Propylene glycol - Menthol It’s also worth noting that flavoured e-liquids can cause even more inflammation of your gums than non-flavoured e-liquids. How can you minimise the side effects of vaping? There are ways to look after your teeth that can help reduce the impact of vaping on your teeth. These include: - Limiting nicotine intake. Try to pick low-nicotine or nicotine-free juices as nicotine will affect your teeth and gums over time. - Drink water every time you vape. This will help you avoid dry mouth and rehydrate you after vaping. - Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Brushing removes plaque to help prevent cavities and promote overall gum health. - Floss before bed. Similarly to brushing, flossing helps remove plaque and promotes gum health. - Visit your local dentist often. Your dentist can help ensure your teeth are still in good condition and let you know when you need any work done. You can also get teeth whitening treatments to get rid of any stains.
