Gower Peninsula

Swansea, the vibrant city situated on the south coast of Wales, has some beautiful hidden gems that are sure to make you smile. When you think of Swansea, you may think of the bustling city full of shops and restaurants, but what if we told you that the city is also home to some of the most beautiful spots in the UK? Below we take a look at three natural places that are well worth visiting in the Swansea area.

The Gower Peninsula

The 19-mile long Gower Peninsula was named the UK’s first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956. The Gower Peninsula is widely recognised as one of the most breathtaking spots in Wales and it’s not hard to see why: stunning limestone cliffs, wild moors, woodlands, caves, medieval castles and beautiful stretches of golden beaches make this a stunning spot to take a picnic.

The Peninsula is home to Rhossili Bay which was voted Wales’ Best Beach 2018. The bay stretches over three miles of golden sand, enclosing Worms Head - the beautiful famous landmark in Wales. The stunning area of the Gower Peninsula is the perfect place for dog walking, surfing, camping, birdwatching and picnicking, guaranteed to put a smile on your face.

Clyne Gardens

The world-famous park Clyne Gardens is a stunning botanical garden overlooking Swansea Bay. The gardens are the perfect place to immerse yourself in nature and to relax amongst some amazing trees, colourful flowers and lush shrubs. A walk through Clyne Gardens will make you feel like you are in a fairytale with the enchanting Bluebell Wood, the characteristic red Japanese Bridge and the picturesque Joy Cottage - all features that we promise will make you smile.

Penllergare Valley Woods

Described as both a ‘secret magical place in the heart of Wales’ and a ‘forgotten Victorian paradise’, Penllergare Valley Woods is a beautiful spot that should not be missed. Think breathtaking waterfalls, lakes and terraces over 12 square miles of gorgeous woodland, as well as exotic trees and plants. The is the perfect place to get right amongst the wildlife: you can watch the kingfishers dart about in the rivers, admire red kites as they swoop over the land or even catch some otters and foxes if you are lucky.

This beautiful hidden gem is sure to put a smile on your face as you sit back and observe the wonderful nature all around.

Vaping is a relatively new phenomenon that has increased in popularity significantly in the past decade. Many use it as a way to wean off cigarettes but some people are becoming addicted to e-cigarettes at a young age. Smoking is widely recognised as a very unhealthy habit, causing gum disease, tooth loss, staining and even oral cancer, whereas vaping is considered a healthier alternative. However, how much damage is being done by vaping? Read on to learn more. Can vaping cause gum disease? While the effects of vaping are not yet known for certain, here is what we do know about smoking nicotine. - Nicotine causes vasoconstriction which means that your gum has a poor blood supply. Ultimately, this can make your gums more prone to infection and lead to gum recession. - Smoking will also dry out your mouth which means your mouth loses its first line of defence against bacteria. Gum disease is caused by bacteria getting under your gum line which is more likely if you have lower levels of saliva. - Generally, your immune system is lowered if you are a smoker which means infectious diseases such as gum disease are more likely to occur. What ingredients should you avoid? When choosing an e-cigarette fluid, there are some ingredients that have known negative side effects. These include: - Nicotine - Propylene glycol - Menthol It’s also worth noting that flavoured e-liquids can cause even more inflammation of your gums than non-flavoured e-liquids. How can you minimise the side effects of vaping? There are ways to look after your teeth that can help reduce the impact of vaping on your teeth. These include: - Limiting nicotine intake. Try to pick low-nicotine or nicotine-free juices as nicotine will affect your teeth and gums over time. - Drink water every time you vape. This will help you avoid dry mouth and rehydrate you after vaping. - Brush your teeth at least twice a day. Brushing removes plaque to help prevent cavities and promote overall gum health. - Floss before bed. Similarly to brushing, flossing helps remove plaque and promotes gum health. - Visit your local dentist often. Your dentist can help ensure your teeth are still in good condition and let you know when you need any work done. You can also get teeth whitening treatments to get rid of any stains.
